Jack Wolfskin Men’s Troposphere Jacket

A popular choice of jacket with BCH Camping customers for hiking and outdoor pursuits is the Jack Wolfskin men’s Troposphere jacket. This is Jack Wolfskin’s answer to the most extreme of weather conditions. It’s almost as if it goads the elements with, “Come and have a go if you think you’re tough enough!”.

Whether hiking in snow, rain or strong winds, the Troposphere jacket responds. The Microguard Superloft Ecosphere insulation has you covered. Completely windproof, this jacket meets the challenge of the elements while you enjoy your outdoor activities.

Main features of the Jack Wolfskin Troposphere jacket

As a winter hiking jacket, you’d expect some weather-defying features, but the technology and innovation behind the Jack Wolfskin Troposphere jacket make it excel in performance and functionality.
  • Texapore O2+ Stretch 2L fabric
Texapore is Jack Wolfskin’s weather protection technology. For the Troposphere jacket the Texapore fabric is stretchy, so offers great comfort. Texapore is constructed of an upper material and a weatherproof layer that wicks moisture vapour away. The fabric offers the following essential properties:
  • Waterproof and windproof
Water column rating of 20,000mm. This means the jacket can hold a 20,000mm tall column of water before it would start to leak.
  • Breathable
The jacket has a MVTR (moisture vapour transmission rate) of > 15,000g/m²/24h.
MVTR is a measure of the passage of water vapour through a substance. It basically tells us how breathable the fabric is. Jackets with a 10,000g/m²/24h are suitable for hiking, but only jackets with a MVTR of more than 15,000g/m²/24h perform well enough for more strenuous activities such as mountaineering.
  • Microguard Superloft Ecosphere
This recycled, high-loft synthetic fibre fill is a mix of 200g/m² and 120g/m², classified as extra warm and very warm. It’s not just the warmth that is so impressive, the fill is also ultra-light and insensitive to moisture, and gives the Troposphere jacket a down-like look.
  • Soft microfibre lining
  • Fixed hood with adjustable volume and field of vision
  • Under-arm venting zips
  • Plenty of pockets: 2 hand pockets, 1 chest pocket and 1 inner pocket
  • Snug-fitting elasticated cuffs
  • Water resistant zips
  • Adjustable hem
  • Weight 960g

The social and environmental credentials of the Jack Wolfskin Troposphere jacket

Free from PFCs (perfluorinated compounds)

Perfluorinated compounds are used in the waterproofing process to form the outer layer of protection for the fabric. PFCs can damage the environment if they leach into the water system during manufacture or directly from the clothing. They can build up through the food chain with catastrophic results; polar bears have been found to have PFCs in their stomachs, and PFCs have been found in glaciers and on ice caps. The Jack Wolfskin Troposphere jacket is PFC-free.

BLUESIGN® certified

BLUESIGN is an independent verifier that provides safer and more sustainable environments for people to work and live in. It traces each textile through the manufacturing process to make sustainability improvements along the way.

Green Button certified

The Green Button certification, created by the German Government, identifies textiles that have been produced in accordance with high social and environmental standards. Examples include a ban on child and enforced labour and the regulation of hazardous chemicals. Companies are also audited for their human rights record and environmental due diligence.
