Walk bravely into winter in the Mountain Equipment men’s Particle hooded jacket

What are you looking for in your winter jacket? Maybe a stylish, high-fashion number that looks great with your refill coffee cup and AirPods? Or a thick, woolly-looking coat that says, “don’t talk to me until I warm up”?
If you’re a BCH Camping customer we suspect it’s neither of those options – although we have no issue with either (well, maybe the woolly bit!).
Yes, it seems that the majority of our customers have lifelong ‘memberships’ of all things challenging! They tend to embrace the conquests of winter and head out to enjoy hills, sports, climbing or hiking, regardless of the weather. And, let’s be honest, the BCH Camping clothing and footwear ranges can prepare you for most of that!
But, what about when it gets really… really cold? Well, it won’t surprise you to learn that we have the perfect solution for cold winter walks and outdoor winter activities too. It’s the Mountain Equipment Particle hooded jacket.

Mountain Equipment men’s Particle hooded jacket

Mountain Equipment designed the men’s Particle hooded jacket for freezing temperatures, but it’s the versatility of this jacket that makes it a true winner. It can either be worn as a super-warm midlayer for freezing cold winter activities such as mountaineering or skiing, or as a lightweight outer for chilly days nearer home.
This is a synthetic jacket that packs a punch, despite being so lightweight at just 430g. It also ticks the sustainability box by being made of 100% recycled Polarloft® insulation (no bears were harmed in the process!). Here’s a rundown of the great features of this winter gem:

Features of the Mountain Equipment men’s Particle hooded jacket

  • 100% recycled 20 denier outer fabric – it’s lightweight and windproof with a PFC-free (Perfluorinated chemicals) durable, water repellent finish (DWR) that protects against light drizzle by encouraging rain or snow to bead away from the fabric
  • 130g 100% recycled bluesign® approved POLARLOFT® featherless insulation from 3M
  • Stretch fleece panels that run along the sides of the jacket and under the arms to reduce bulk and allow greater freedom of movement, exactly where the body needs it
The panels provide extra comfort and flexibility when climbing, and less insulation in areas that don’t need it as much. They are made of polyester and have a brushed inner face for added comfort
  • Stitched-through quilted construction that offers an even spread of warmth and prevents the filling from moving around the jacket
  • An elastane bound mountain hood that offers great flexibility when climbing. It also keeps the fabric close to the face to retain the heat
  • YKK® moulded centre front zip that helps to stop ice building up
  • 2 zipped hand warmer pockets for storing essentials such as gloves and snacks
  • Elastane bound cuffs for extra warmth, freedom of movement and stretch to accommodate layers underneath
  • Elastane bound hem
  • Easy storage – it packs into a supplied hand pocket with twin karabiner carry loops so you can attach it to the outside of a bag rather than having to find room for it inside.

The benefits of the synthetic insulation compared to down

The synthetic insulation provides similar benefits to down because it is blown into baffles (pockets of space) to provide maximum loft and trap heat.
Synthetic insulation resists water more effectively than down. It also absorbs less water by staying lofted when damp which means it continues to insulate, even when wet. This also allows the Particle jacket to dry more quicky than a down jacket.
When considering the lifespan of your jacket, it’s good to know that synthetic insulation is more durable than down. It is also hypoallergenic.

Mountain Equipment Drilite Overmitt

This Drilite Overmitt is the ideal glove for keeping active in icy cold conditions. It has a wide opening, making it easy to put on. It provides extra protection in cold and wet conditions, and has long, gauntlet-design cuffs with a single hand drawcord closure, which is perfect for more challenging weather conditions. The Drilite Overmitt has the Mountain Equipment Suregrip palm which helps when using poles.

Mountain Equipment Eclipse Beanie

The Mountain Equipment Eclipse Beanie is made of Pontetorto® Tecnopile 187 fleece. This fabric technology provides impressive thermal performance with minimum bulk, and facilitates speedy drying if it gets wet. Its design has made it thin enough to be worn under a helmet, making it ideal for a day of climbing in cold conditions.

Mountain Equipment Ibex Pant

We love the Mountain Equipment Ibex technical walking trousers at BCH Camping. So much so, that you will often find our staff wearing them! They are great for demanding activities because they can bend and shape wherever you need them to. They have a water repellent finish with excellent wicking properties.
