At the end of 2025, Rab announced a reinvention of their Microlight jacket, for an autumn/winter 2026 launch. Incorporating the signature features that have made the Microlight jacket a best seller year on year, Rab’s redesign has now made it… waterproof. (Oohs from the crowd!)
Everything you need to know about the 2026 Rab Microlight Shield waterproof jacket
Available from BCH Camping in men’s and women’s sizes, the Rab Microlight Shield jacket provides the unique combination of waterproof protection and down insulation in one item of clothing. This is a fantastic opportunity to streamline your kit.
100% waterproof protection
The two-layer Pertex® Shield waterproof outer sheds rain and snow without impacting its breathability or creating bulk. It is a lightweight and breathable technical fabric, specifically designed for outdoor activities such as mountaineering, hiking and trail running. Finished with a fluorocarbon-free DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating, the fabric has a HH (Hydrostatic Head) rating of 20,000mm. This means the fabric can withstand a column of water up to 20,000mm without it penetrating the fabric.
Strategically placed 700FP down
700FP down with Grangers hydrophobic finish (DWR coating) is held in strategically placed small and large baffles to optimise warmth and minimise bulk:
· Nano baffles down the sides and under the arms allow freedom of movement
· Larger micro baffles facilitate greater down loft and heat retention in areas where it is needed most, such as the core and torso.
Adjustable hood
The hood has an integrated peak, and two-point adjustment to fine tune the fit, for optimised protection of the head and face against driving rain.
Durable construction
The Microlight Shield waterproof jacket is designed and engineered with a highly durable and repairable construction to provide many years of use.
Articulated sleeves
Along with the smaller baffles under the arms, the fully articulated sleeves allow for unrestricted movement which is essential for outdoor challenges such as climbing.
Zipped chest pocket
The easily accessible, zipped chest pocket provides secure storage for maps, snacks and other essentials.
Two hand warming pockets
Two hand pockets sit behind the baffles for the speedy warming of hands.
Elasticated cuffs and adjustable hem
For added resistance against cold winds and rain, the sleeve cuffs are elasticated, and the hem can be easily adjusted using the drawcord to cover more of the lower body.
Insulated zip baffle
The YKK® VISLON® AquaGuard® front zip has an insulated zip baffle as an extra barrier against the cold.
