Engineered for serious mountain pursuits, the Mountain Equipment Makalu Mens Jacket in Imperial Red Crimson is a versatile waterproof layer that balances protection with practicality. Built to perform on alpine routes, winter ridges and multi-day expeditions, it delivers year-round reliability without compromise.
The 70-denier breathable GORE-TEX ePE fabric is the engineering heart of this jacket. This midweight material strikes the critical balance between durability, breathability and packability — robust enough to withstand sustained contact with rock, heavy pack straps and relentless weather, yet supple enough to compress into a rucksack and comfortable enough for all-day wear. It sheds driving rain and wet snow while allowing moisture vapour to escape, keeping you dry from both directions.
The peaked, helmet-compatible hood is roomy and infinitely adjustable, locking down securely in wind gusts without restricting vision or mobility. The Alpine Fit silhouette minimises excess fabric that flaps or bunches, maintaining a streamlined profile that moves with you rather than against you. Pre-shaped, articulated sleeves free up shoulder and arm movement for dynamic tasks — belaying, shouldering heavy loads, swinging tools or managing rope work.
Strategic ventilation keeps you cool on sustained climbs. Large pit zips open when you need rapid heat shedding during strenuous ascents or in humid conditions, while sealed laminated cuffs and adjustable hem drawcords lock in protection when weather turns savage. Multiple pack-friendly features — including secure pockets and minimal bulk — ensure the Makalu integrates seamlessly into your expedition kit.
A proven choice for alpinists, mountaineers and fell walkers who demand a single waterproof that performs in everything from spring showers to winter storms.
